59 – Super 8 (2011)

My Rating: 6/10

Synopsis:  While filming their entry for the Super 8 film festival, a group of friends witness the derailing of a freight train. As they cover for safety, their cameras kept on rolling and captured something unbelievable and unreal. Soon afterwards, odd occurrences in their small town happened that cannot be explained.

<SPOILERS>

It’s a good film that a kid can watch. Not so much gore, and it teaches a lot. There were scenes that were made just to stress the importance of staying off drugs and loving your parents for example. Yet there are glooming plot holes and the plot is too thick a mystery but the payoff is not that high. The reveal is not that big a moment either. Don’t get me wrong, the moment need not be a big one but at least it should have made an impact or it should have been used to propel forward the story and the resolution at the end is vague at best. Suddenly, the monster is finished in wrecking and suddenly all the metal things get magnetized to the water tank? Most of all, the scientist is incredibly dumb. What was he thinking? I know he wants to set the monster free but really speeding towards a train without weighing the complications that will arise after the collision? How stupid is that? I commend the very spot on acting by the kids. They’re all good. The movie looks it has a great potential somehow it’s wasted with the plot machinations.

Runtime: 1hr 52min (IMDb)

SO MANY FACTORS SHOULD BE ACCOUNTED FOR IN REPORTING GROSSES IN BOX OFFICE LIKE IF IT’S A WIDE RELEASE OR ONLY FOR A LIMITED RUN, MERE SHOWING OF NUMBERS DOES NOT DETAIL ANYTHING. IN FACT, IT MAY OBSCURE ONE’S VIEW OF THE FILM. IT’S BECAUSE NOT ALL ARE CREATED TO FUNCTION AS CASH COW FRANCHISES, SOME ARE DONE FOR ARTISTIC EXPRESSION AND OTHER PURPOSES. SO NO PRODUCTION BUDGET AND GROSSES REPORT WILL BE FEATURED HERE
